You can meet with one of our experienced counselors for an
introductory session to evaluate your job search campaign
and resume to determine if our services fit your needs.
Here are some things to think about.
- 80% of jobs are filled
before they are listed on the internet or in the paper.
There is a proven way to find these jobs if you know
where to look and whom to ask.
- If you want to make a
career change, your resume is not the best document to
use to communicate your credentials. You need to avoid
your present occupational stereotype.
- Normally, jobs listed
on any Web site or public notice posting represent
positions which an organization has had difficulty in
locating candidates. Everyone who applies is in
competition with you.
- Most unemployed
persons who are good, loyal employees and managers are
not experts in job hunting. They waste valuable assets,
time and money in their pursuit of employment. Often if
results do not surface in six weeks, they become
discouraged and even depressed. If one uses a real estate
agent to buy a house, a financial advisor to develop
investment options, an attorney for a will, doesn't using
a seasoned job hunting professional make
sense?
- In case you have
unusual circumstances in your employment history which
may be considered negative, we help you overcome these so
they do not hinder your search efforts.
- The initial visit to
meet with a professional job hunting professional is
free. Why not give it a try? Call 503-252-3495 or 1-800-245-1108 for a no-cost visit
appointment. For out-of-city inquiries, a telephone visit is recommended. The consultation time is free; you pay only for the phone call.
What we have learned about Job Hunters:
Every person we meet is uniquely skilled with different
employment goals. Not only are job expectations special to
each individual, but also preferences regarding time and
energy to conduct a job search.
We have found that there is no cookie cutter approach to job
hunting, resume preparation and offer negotiating. Each of
our clients prefers to choose the style, intensity and
homework preparation according to their temperament and
personality. That is why we have designed our services to
include the following features:
Your budget:
Cost is very sensitive to unemployed job hunters. We offer
very cost effective rates, probably the most reasonable in
the area. Some clients actually get reimbursed for our
service fees because we save them at least 30 days of
unemployment or help them negotiate a higher paying
salary.
Any professional service (law, accounting, nutrition, real
estate, financial planning and others) should help you
substantially more than you could accomplish on your own.
You should also end up with a better job, faster than you
could obtain on your own.
Your schedule:
We are aware that most everyone is busy with many
commitments. Life does not stop when a person is unemployed.
We have designed our services so that you can choose those
times which best fit your calendar. Each of your weekly IDAK
office sessions is supplemented by job hunting training
exercises which you take home and complete at your own pace.
You are free to take as long or as short a time, day or
night, as fits your schedule.
Your level of commitment:
We have found by helping thousands of clients over the last
20 years that everyone's level of commitment to get a job, a
good job, in the shortest time possible, varies. Some
clients set aside 40 hours per week and are very proactive
in calling employers to set appointments. Other clients
prefer to surf the internet and read the paper, waiting for
the right opportunity. We, therefore, divide our instruction
into Basic Job Search Training and Advanced Job Search
Training. We also separate the more aggressive proactive
strategies from the more passive job search strategies. Our
clients get the benefit of all the different options and
then choose what fits their temperament and personality.
Our Job Hunting Services: Each of our clients receive
one-on-one coaching and training (no group sessions). Each
client receives take-home learning exercises and audio
instructional cassettes which complement the weekly office
sessions. We have both four-week and six-week instructional
sessions.
We guide you to develop a personalized job search campaign
for your chosen career target for the city/state of your
choice (anywhere in the U.S.). Emphasis is on developing an
in-depth search in a chosen career target as well as
responding to publicly advertised vacancies. Your training
will include two levels of instruction: Basic and
Advanced.
Basic Job Search Training:
- Networking with
friends and acquaintances
- Developing your
Employer Contact List
- Best sources for
internet job leads
- Responding to vacancy
ads
- Preparing for
interview questions
- Getting past the
secretary and screening committee
- Developing your
resume
- Cold calling
employers
- Wardrobe
analysis
- Job offer
negotiating
Advanced Job Search Training:
- How to locate the
hidden, unadvertised jobs
- Setting telephone
appointments
- Evaluating growing
companies
- Negotiating
opportunities into offers
- Wardrobe
analysis
- Scanning news sources
and internet for information
- Coaching your friends
and acquaintances to help you
How do we evaluate our success?
Unfortunately it is too expensive to hire an independent,
unbiased consulting firm to survey our thousands of clients
we have helped nationwide. Universities have
the same problem in surveying all entering freshmen at the
end of four years to determine who graduated and how many
got jobs.
On a more practical level, we have a simpler approach.
First, we look each year to see who is still listed in the
yellow pages that provides career advancement services.
Unfortunately, there is a high turn over in our industry
among the start ups. Second, we listen to feedback from the
600+ counselors and consultants we have trained since 1985.
Are they telling us that our systems work? Third, we rely on
word of mouth from client successes rather than pay for
expensive advertising. Fourth, and last, for our corporate
clients we provide a special job hunting service which comes
with a guarantee to stay with the client until hired. This
service is outplacement and purchased by companies for their
terminated executives and managers. We will work with these
individuals meeting weekly until they are in their new job.
This means that our system better work or we go out of
business.
FREE JOB HUNTING TIPS
When unemployed, six things not to do, and
more
- The important thing
during a job transition is how you manage the grief and
the loss so as to improve your position. Once you have
learned this, you will gain new confidence in your
ability to buffet life's surprises.
- Don't call friends and
acquaintances about the terrible injustice you have
suffered and ask them to help you find a job. These are
your "golden nuggets" and they are too important to your
future success. Wait until you have a well-planned
strategy to ask them for help in the right
way.
- Don't just add a
paragraph to your old resume to update and send it to
everyone you can think of. Your new job search will
require new adjustments and your new resume needs to be
properly focused.
- Don't send off
responses to every internet and newspaper ad you can
find. Your disappointment from rejections will begin to
undermine your emotional stability.
- Don't decide to take a
long awaited vacation or become involved in remodeling
your home. Save your vacation and your remodeling project
until after you have found your new job. Then you can
truly enjoy it. If you defer your job search, you will
spend that time worrying and not building up your
confidence.
- Don't go on a shopping
spree to make major purchases. Wait until your finances
are evaluated and you know where you stand.
- Don't go into
isolation to contemplate your woes. Being by yourself and
gathering self-pity will not get you started. You will
lose a lot of valuable time. Be pro-active and get help
to expand your network and make you search as easy as
possible.
- Get competent
professional help to assist you in putting your best foot
forward. There is no charge for the first visit to
evaluate your job search. Call 503-252-3495 or 1-800-245-1108 for a visit
appointment. For out-of-city inquiries, a telephone visit is recommended. The consultation time is free; you pay only for the phone call.
